Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This means them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.
